In the early 20th century, wine production was a major focus in agriculture in the state of Oklahoma. With the Dust Bowl and Prohibition, Oklahoma’s wine industry took a double-hit and nose-dived. Now, not only has the state returned to production of wines like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling and Gewurstraminer, but they have also wandered into the experiemental world of fruit wines and, more strikingly, wines made of peppers like jalapeños. Though tough laws have kept the Oklahoma wine industry struggling, there are over 40 wineries in the state offering along with their wines things like: concerts, classic car shows, harvest parties, tours, and many other events, especially holiday celebrations.

Fun Fact: A general consensus among wineries in the state of Oklahoma is that they do not compete with each other, but rather, they complement each others’ businesses. They often suggest to visitors other wineries that they should visit.
