New York is no stranger to wine as grape growth in the state dates back to the 1600’s. Much of the state’s wine is still focused on native grapes like Concords, but in the 1950’s fine wine varieties started budding in the Finger Lakes area. Not only was New York the first state to house a bonded winery, but the largest wine company in the world, Constellation brands, is also based there. New York is even the home of the country’s oldest winery, Brotherhood Winery, which has been in operation for almost 350 years. The most common varieties found in New York are: Riesling, Seyval, Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, and sparkling wines.

Fun Fact: Though New York is the 4th largest wine producer in the U.S., 70% of the state’s grape production goes to juice, not wine.
