The heat and humidity in Mississippi makes it extremely difficult to grow any European wine grape varietals, leaving the state to focus on a grape that thrives in the southern-type climate conditions: the Muscadine grape. The Muscadine is also used for grape juices, jellies, syrups, jams, etc. Because the Muscadine grape is Mississippi’s primary wine source, the state is known for its sweeter wines.

Fun Fact: Mississippi scientists have shown in their studies of the Muscadine grape that, not only is the grape resistant to nearly every other regional grape threat, but it is also a hugely beneficial food containing multitudes of fiber, restveratrol and several essential daily nutrients.
